A month after BYD passed 10,000 flash-charging stations, it has finished the 2,000 highway stations it promised for the end of the year — three months early, and just before China’s October holiday traffic.
Affected#
Drivers of flash-charging-capable BYD models in China, and, BYD says, a fair number of other drivers: nearly one-third of the network’s users are in non-BYD cars. UK drivers are the first outside China with a stake, below.
Confirmed#
As reported by CnEVPost on 23 and 24 September:
| Highway stations | 2,000, reached 24 Sept |
| Highway coverage | nearly one-third of China’s service areas, just over 100 km apart |
| All stations | 11,586, in 341 cities |
| All stations, 28 Aug | 10,000 |
| Target, end of 2026 | 20,000 |
| Power | 1,500 kW per connector |
| Energy delivered | 210 million kWh |
| Users | 1.83 million |
| Planned overseas | 6,000 stations |
The UK. BYD has completed its first flash-charging stations in the UK and plans 300 there this year.
For context, Geely has since announced a 2,250 kW charger, which makes 1,500 kW no longer the highest figure on the market.
Unconfirmed#
- Where the UK stations are. No locations have been named, and none in any other European market.
- Whether the 20,000 target is on track. Reaching it means about 80 new stations a day, and most — 18,000 — are to be built with partner operators rather than by BYD.
- What a UK car can draw. A 1,500 kW connector says nothing about the charging curve of a European-specification BYD, and no UK model has been named as flash-charging capable in these reports.
