BYD is hiring more than 8,000 production workers in Xi’an, its largest manufacturing base by output. It is the clearest sign yet that the first half’s slowdown was a production problem, not only a demand one.
Affected#
Indirectly, buyers in export markets: August’s record exports (covered here) need cars built, and Xi’an is where most of them are.
Confirmed#
As reported by CnEVPost:
| Workers sought | more than 8,000 |
| Signing bonus | up to 6,000 yuan |
| Monthly pay | up to 10,000 yuan |
| Xi’an capacity | up to 1.5 million vehicles a year |
| Xi’an output, 2024 | more than 1 million vehicles |
| Shaanxi output, Aug 2026 | 138,900 vehicles, +55.4 % on July |
CnEVPost attributes the recovery to the end of first-half constraints from “battery upgrades and production line modifications”. In August BYD sold 440,293 new-energy vehicles, of which a record 189,466 went abroad, while domestic sales fell 14.3 %.
Unconfirmed#
- That the hires are for export production. The report links the hiring to rising output and exports; BYD has not said which lines or models the workers are for.
- How much of Shaanxi’s output is BYD’s. The provincial figure includes other manufacturers.
- Whether these are permanent positions. The report does not say.
