BYD says its Flash Charging network in China reached 10,000 stations on 27 August, less than six months after the programme started in March, and marked it with a ceremony at the Shenzhen Longhua flagship site on 28 August.
Affected#
Drivers in China now; drivers in Europe later. BYD has said it plans 6,000 Flash Charging stations outside China, 3,000 of them in Europe, but no European timetable has been published. Nothing here changes what is available to a Sealion 7 owner in Europe or Morocco today.
Confirmed#
- 10,000 stations in China, up from about 5,000 on 1 April and 7,018 in late June. Coverage was quoted at 325 cities in July.
- The Sinopec agreement, signed 3 June in Beijing, adds Flash Charging bays at selected sites in a network of more than 30,000 fuel stations — alongside the pumps, not replacing the network.
- Hardware rating of 1,500 kW from a single liquid-cooled gun, on an overhead sliding rail, with a gun weighing about 2 kg. BYD quotes 10–70% in five minutes and 10–97% in nine.
- A Shanghai flagship on the Huqingping Highway opened on 6 August, with fuel pumps replaced by charging bays.
Unconfirmed#
- The 20,000 target looks demanding. Reaching it by 31 December means roughly 80 more stations every day from here. That is the rate the target implies, not a rate BYD has reported achieving.
- 1,500 kW is the station’s peak, not what a car receives. Vehicle-side power depends on state of charge, pack architecture and temperature, and no independent charging curve across the claimed 10–97% range has been published. Treat the five- and nine-minute figures as manufacturer claims.
- No European rollout dates, and no statement on which vehicles will be able to use the higher power when it arrives.
